Today’s guest post is with Kevin Douglas. Kevin asks the question “Why do you continue to write blog posts every day?” I encourage you to leave Kevin a comment at the end of this post. Here is Kevin’s article, followed by his bio. Enjoy!

I hate coffee, but I can’t live without drinking it just about every morning. To all the non-coffee drinkers of the world, that totally sounds weird.

The thing is I have an ulterior motive in drinking coffee. It’s not because of the taste. I need the caffeine to help wake me because I didn’t get the proper rest the night before. To some, the taste of strong, black coffee is enough to make you grow hair in places you don’t have hair, but I love it. Every morning, like thousands, if not millions, of people reach for their favorite “World’s Greatest Dad” mug or “I Love Mom” coffee cup to pour a hot cup of Joe. For many, it’s a daily ritual. A good pot of coffee brewing in the morning smells amazing, but that is deceiving to someone who has never tasted coffee before in their life.

The question is- do people who drink coffee every morning do so because they love the taste of it or do people drink it because they’re simply addicted to the caffeine?

How about this- do you drink coffee because you always drink coffee every morning simply out of habit?

(Yes, there’s a point to this. Here it is.)

Any coffee drinker will tell you, coffee in general is an acquired taste. You either love it or you don’t. You don’t hear most people saying “Yeah, I’m really not in the mood for a mocha latte, 2% milk, no crème, 2 dashes of cinnamon, 1 dash of nutmeg, but I’ll take one anyway! (I hate people who order their coffee that way!)

Why do you continue to write blog posts every day (or whatever your posting schedule is for each week)? Do you hate doing it, but you feel that blogging everyday will help you get rich like Darren Rowse (from Problogger fame)? Or, do you blog because you love blogging and sharing your ideas and opinions with others?

Social Media Blogger Annabel Candy said something that still sticks in my head to this day. “If you’re not going to stick with blogging for longer than a year, don’t even bother getting started.” It’s a waste of your time and energy. You could put that energy towards other things like playing video games. (You know. Important things to make you feel productive in daily life.)

Why does one continue to go to the same, regular 9 to 5 job every day? Is it because we love our co-workers, clients and management team? Or, is it because we’ve become so dependent on keeping a desk job and benefits, we’re scared to want more for ourselves, like financial independence and freedom?

The reason I blog is the same reason I get that damn cup of hot java in the morning; every morning. There are times when I hate having to sit down in front of a blank computer and try and entertain readers and myself. I’m mainly trying to produce content that I like to read. That’s why I have started adding guest posts from other bloggers. It’s not because I’m trying to increase my page rank and get backlinks. (Although, don’t get me wrong, that sure is nice.) But I do it because I have the opportunity to connect with other people whose work and blogs I admire. The benefits of having them give me a guest post are immeasurable.

So, for me I hate blogging, but I l can’t live without it being involved in this community. The blogging community is one of the most close-knit communities in the world. I love learning and talking about entrepreneurship with others. That motivates me to try new ways of making money online and then I can pass what I learn to someone else.

Whatever it is you find yourself doing every day, make sure you enjoy doing it. Our lives are too short to continue to be mundane and just settling. Last time I looked at the Declaration of Independence, the pursuit of happiness piece was still included. Start pursuing your happiness.

So the question to you is- do you hate coffee?

Well actually I have nothing against coffee. I have an occasional cup but mostly I prefer tea. I have about 4-5 cups a day.
Connecting with other bloggers is why I started blogging too but sometimes there just isn’t anything to say or you need to take some time off to recharge. So guest posts to keep the readers entertained during that time is a good solution. :)
