How to set up comment reply notifications
If you are a regular reader of my blog you know I offer you the ability to subscribe to comments. I’m using the ” Subscribe to comments’ plugin, which sends you a notification email every-time a new comment is posted to a blog post.
All that email can be annoying.
On my post ‘reply to blog comments‘ Steve Youngs commented that he would love to know when someone replied directly to him on a comment apposed to receiving a notification email every-time a new comment is posted to a blog post.
I was unaware that I already had the plugin- Wp-threaded comments installed that sends a notification email only if a reply is posted directly to the commentator.
I just didn’t have my settings properly configured.
I’ve changed my settings to now allow my faithful readers the option of receiving an e-mail when someone replies directly to them.

If you click on Settings, WP Thread comments you can select whether your commenters receive a notification when an author/admin replies to that their or when anyone replies to their comment.
I think the plugin is great as it helps you further encourage reader engagement by making them aware of follow up comments.
I also edited the plugin to make sure that you understand that you will only receive an e-mail when somebody replies directly to you.
On my blog you’ll now ‘Notify me via e-mail of all comments on this post’ and ‘Notify me via e-mail when someone replies directly to my comment.’
If you put a check mark in the box ‘Notify me via e-mail when someone replies directly to my comment’ you’ll only receive an email when somebody replies directly to your comment as apposed to receiving loads of email every-time someone comments.
If you don’t already have the plugin I encourage you to download and install it.
If you already knew all about it then it may not be a big deal to you, but little things like this amuse me, so allow me my joy.
What are your thoughts on receiving follow up emails from the author of blogs you have commented on?

I was just about to rave on about how it is a shame that it uses that “notify me of comments” thing because I’d not ever use it… then I noticed that you have another re-worded one, too. Just excuse me while I remove this foot from my big fat mouth

Hi Rose,
You’ve answered a question Linda Grace asked me. I thought those 2 checkboxes with “Notify me of follow-up comments via email” were doing the same thing – they’re not.
Now I know what they actually do, one is from “Wp Threaded Comment” plugin and the other one is from “Subscribe to Comments” plugin.
However, I would have to add that editing the “Wp Thread Comment” plugin to display ‘Notify me via e-mail when someone replies directly to my comment’ would not be easy for a non-programmer.
Fortunately, I am a programmer and I’ve been able to change make those changes on my blog.
