Today Shawn DesRochers of Vision This Hosting teaches us how to set up WordPress blog to ping various blog directories.
By Shawn DesRochers
WordPress is set up to automatically notify some blog directories and search engines that their blog has been updated. This is called pinging. However, you can expand to the list WordPress gives and add other blog directories, so that they are automatically pinged every time you publish new content. In this post we will look at how to configure a WordPress blog to do just that.
How to Configure WordPress to ping
1. Login to your WordPress Blog http://www.your-domain.com/wp-admin
2. Select “Settings”> “Writing” from the side menu in the Dashboard.

3. Scroll down to the last option on the page until you see the heading “Update Services.”

Update Services: Download- copy and paste the following list into the form field removing the list already there. ( Be sure to separate multiple service URLs with line breaks.)
Click Save Changes
(If your web host prevents pings, you should stop WordPress from attempting to ping and consider using the Feedburner Pingshot service.)
Once you have added the above services to your WordPress blog, the next time you write a post or update your blog it will automatically ping and notify the above services of your new content.
Have fun and keep blogging!
