I was wondering if anyone will be taking part in the one day of blog silence on Monday April 30th 2007 in honor of the victims at Virginia Tech?

Honestly, probably not. It is not that I am not sympathetic for the victims and there family, it is more that I think silence will accomplish nothing. I feel that what would show more support for them is actually talking about it, I believe silence is what caused this. And I don't mean talk about it like the media talked about it, the did for ratings, I mean grieve with the families tell them we care, with words. This horrible tragedy could have been avoided, by communication. So no I will not be taking part in that, I will probably write a post instead.

I may or may not blog that day, but it won't be because of the VA events. I've gotta agree with ShadeofGray on this one that staying quiet isn't going to help anything. I know it's more of a ceremonial acknowledgment of the tragedy, but I still don't feel it's necessarily the best way to show support or to prevent future occurrences of it.

You know Nicholas, you are right and you got me thinking. I was going to take part until what you said really made an impact. Maybe we should all use that day to speak out about violence. I wonder how many would be willing to speak out on April 30th?

I missed this group of posts and did do a day of silence for all victims. . . but I think a day to speak out is a great idea -- of course, the 30th has passed for me. icon_wink.gif

If someone organized it for sometime in the future, I would "follow" and also post a blurb about it on my 55-alive.com, so a different group saw it.

What the heck is the point of that? Being quiet supports people's rights? I wonder if people are going to be silent in real life, not just on blogs? That would make more of an impact. But the bottom line is that the victims don't take any kind of happiness in people being quiet. And VT wasn't any more of a tragedy than the 100+ murders in any given city in the USA.
