That's a tough question to answer.

My current favorite toy is a combination of Drainhole and redirection from Urban Giraffe. It allows you to keep files above the root and restrict downloads to registered readers, as well as log the downloads. Also it allows you to quickly and easily set up redirection URLs and track clicks on them. It also logs 404 errors and sets up automatic 301 redirects for posts if you change the slug.

Long term, the plugin that has probably had the biggest positive effect on my blogging is Christine Davis's Ultimate Tag Warrior. It has positively effected nearly every aspect of my blogging from organization of the blogs, to traffic generation.

I guess if I were told I had to run a WP blog and could only install one plugin, I would have to go with Spam Karma 2. I'm fortunate in that I can duplicate a lot of things I would want to do through template coding, but this thing makes it possible to actually have a popular blog in today's climate. I can't imaging dealing with the comment spam I get every day without SK2.

Pretty much all of Lester Chan's plugin's. Especially his Users Online one so I can see how many visitors I have when I'm playing around with my blog.

the related posts one since it allows the PR to be spread more over your posts instead of categories. Plus it gives your posts anchor text and allows more even distrubution of PR(since the links aren't based on chronical age).
