I was surfing the web to day and came across this site , it tells you if your site is blocked in China. As you may have heard, the Chinese Gov. has blocked all "dangerous" sites from being found by their citizens. I found out that my blog is indeed blocked. I found out that a lot of wordpress blogs are, I don't know why though. Check you blog is it blocked?

Hey Nick, you might want to drop by and give your two cents on my China blog post.
According to GreatFireWallOfChina.org, China had blocked access to bloggingfusion.com on Monday, but a search later showed it as unblocked. The site also comes with the following disclaimer.
“This version 1.0 may report sites as being ‘blocked’, while there are only technical reasons for their unavailability.
It’s greatfirewallofchina.org’s aim to collaboratively build a community that will be able to visualize Internet censorship in an increasingly accurate way.”
Therefore it may of just been a technical glitch that showed us blocked.
John Chow has reported China doesn’t like him as GreatFireWallOfChina.org shows his domain as blocked.
I’m not blocked in China Nick. _________________ Help Support Blogger Talk Blogging Community|

Very cool. Apparently, the Chinese enjoy satire because my site isn't blocked and I have one or two reasons they might actually want to block it. go figure. |

Apparently my guitar blog is not radical enough to warrant blocking. I'll have to work on that.

Mine's not blocked....and I tried a few sites that would likely be blocked, but they weren't either. The only way I could get a 'block' to come up was when I put in a flat out porn site. |

| Mine came back as blocked. I will have to check it a few times, but giving the nature of my blog, I am not surprised. I would imagine any site that has the word "political" in the address is probably blocked. |

I have been wondering why my blog is not getting more hits; now I know. China has me blocked. I will just have to struggle along and get over it.
But why? Is a blog about having fun with a small boat likely to cause a revolt? Is the freedom to fish and explore a threat? Maybe the fact that it uses a Honda engine?

What is the world coming to? Oh a sad day, a sad day indeed...the Chinese cannot read my blog and succumb to the insanity it transpires...oh the pain is unbearable. I had so many dreams you know...so many hopes such ambition but no they had to ban me from China!
Oh the horror, I need to work something out to cope with this revolting development (deep breath...manic laughter...).
Wait a minute I think I got it. A couple of solutions actually:
1)Put Jackie Chan's name on my blog's url, I mean Jackie is a national institution over there and a worldwide icon. He's got to do the trick, that winning smile has to be the solution to end my chinese enforced exile...it just has to be. I 'll even go one better and put Youtube videos on it showing Jackie Chan "kung-fu chopping" everyone from G.W.Bush to Mickey Mouse to Marilyn Manson. Yep that is my Chinese web ticket right there, lol.
2)I can always convert my blog content and make it a "rice fan site" . Write songs about it, have sexy rice pictures, get interviews from the best varieties....the works...oh come on they love eating the stuff and so do I, it has to work....
3)If all else fails I can play the secret card of calling my self "Deadpool-Lee" and start putting banners on my blog for the upcoming Olympics. Yeah, I am a bonafide 'China-man" you know just unlucky enough to be born in Greece by Greek parents...details details... |

Are you asking about the other blocked sites or the porn sites? _________________ Visit http://georgejazz.blogspot.com

I'm blocked as well but I don't understand why that my Google Analytics still show that my blog receives visits from China...
For once I asked a cyber friend of mine to visit my blog in Japan, she said that the blog is unreachable though... _________________ My blog: http://yp90.blogspot.com |

I could go on and on on that and I don't want to be misundertood but just a couple of things, and sorry if I'm boring !
I studied Chinese for 12 years and know the culture, history etc, pretty well. I also lived and worked there, although on short time periods. Oh, and BTW, I'm NOT Chinese or Asian, just saying cause a lot of people think I am because of my background !
Anyway, I think people in the Western world tend to demonize China. I don't support the bad sides of the Chinese government and I'm not a die-hard communist, but China isn't as bad as it sounds.
Sure, the government might try to block some websites and have some control over the population. The CCP has much less power on the people now than during the Mao's years for instance. China is way more open and the attempt to control people usually fail. Just like some US media, or European ones might be biaised, Chinese is selecting informations.
I always find it weird to read in newspapers here that an internet café has been closed by the authorities in whatever Chinese province. There"re tons of cybercafé in mainland China now, and closing one won't make much of a difference. Sure, it's sad and shouldn't happen, but why realting the news in such a tragic way ?
Anyway, I'm not sure I'm making sense and I wouldn't like to see my blog blocked in China, but just wanted to add some background. |
