Blog Content Theft

What do you do when a site steals your blog's content? What are your thoughts on blog content theft?

Blog content is a big issue and many bloggers think that as along as you cite the source that it falls under fair use. This is not the case at all.

Any time you want to post someone’s content in its full entirety on your blog, you need to ask for permission.

For information regarding what you can do when your content is stolen, I recommend checking out this informative article by Lorelle Vanfossen.

Finding Stolen Content and Copyright Infringements

Lorelle has several ways of checking to see if other sites have scraped her posts. Like Lorelle, I often do a keyword search for my name on Google Blog Search and Technorati to see if anyone has copied my content.

Hi,
I googled my name and found that a few others had used some of my posts in their blogs. I don't think there is anything I can do about it as I could not get an attorney. In a way, it is flattering I guess. What are your thoughts, Rose?

Cindy you could ask for the blogger to remove it if they don't have your permission and if is a splog blog (spam blog) you can report them to their web host. (In most cases I find my content on Blogger spam blogs.)

A Google bomb is a hyperlinking strategy intended to change the search results of a specific term or phrase.

Enter miserable failure into Google and click on I'm feeling lucky.

To identify the owner and the hosting provider of the domain do a whois lookup.
