What do you think should be on the top ten list of Blogging Etiquette?
I'll start with 1.
I think that I have a pretty good track record for properly citing the source in my blog posts. I believe that if you get an idea from a blog then you should always make an attempt to link to that person's blog. It is the proper thing to do. I feel that it is poor etiquette not to cite your source. If you are blogging about a topic that you read on another blog, please be so kind to mention that blog in your post and link to them. _________________ Help Support Blogger Talk Blogging Community|

I agree with that one. It's really easy for me personally because I 'love' linking to other places. I like giving props to people who prompted me to post something of my own, so it's kinda fun, in a sense, and doesn't feel like I'm being 'proper' or 'kind'....I truly enjoy it.
For number 2....No hotlinking. |

| I think the number one rule can't be overstated enough. My suggestion : No hidden links. If you have to hide a link to an advertiser, it is probably not a good ad. |

Jessi, no hotlinking is an import one and we've discussed that in another thread and Andy of course the no hidden text rule. That one will get you banned from search engines.
4. Only blog about stuff that is true. Check your facts before blogging. If you have reason to believe that something may not be true then don't publish it. One of the major benefits of blogs is how easy it is to publish, but this can be a dangerous disadvantage too. It is important to check facts and not just assume.
5. When leaving comments on a blog, comment on the subject at hand. There is nothing more annoying than removing self promotional comments. I’d guess that much of the blogosphere would agree with me on this one. I think it’s extremely rude when someone visits a blog and does not comment on the topic at hand.
With that said, I wanted to comment on something. I crossed post this blog post on my blog and a blogger thought I was directing it at them and made a comment about me on their blog thinking they upset me for not citing the source of something they found on my blog they blogged about. What a mess. I guess this could fall under checking ones facts. _________________ Help Support Blogger Talk Blogging Community|

Yea I agree with 1 and 2 as well. I have one that annoys me quite a bit. What number are we up to now?
Number 6 - Don't use a misleading title
I mean like promising something in the title of your post and then in the actual post you say something along the lines of "Alright now I have your attention let me tell you about..." gaaaarh that's so annoying . _________________ NZ Protagonist - My screenwriting blog.

lol, I have this at the bottom of a blog I started recently
| Quote: | | Skin created by me, but completely ripped off from this wonderful site. Photography by Scott Harrower. | with of course a link to the site mentioned.
Does that count as citing the source. _________________ Bob! |

A blog war is pretty much the same as a flame war. A flame war is defined as "when an online discussion degenerates into a series of personal attacks against the debaters, rather than discussion of their positions."
While we are on the subject of blogging etiquette.
Rule 8
Do not republish an article in its full entirety without written permission from the author. Quote a portion of the article and link to the remaining article. I have surfed to a great number of blogs who do not respect copyright. _________________ Help Support Blogger Talk Blogging Community|

Hidden links used for "google juice" can actually be detected by some search engines. Google has been noted before of having the ability to tell whether the webmaster in using CSS to hide the text. _________________ --mike
