While it is true that you don't even need to submit your site to Google in order to be indexed, Google does invite you to submit your URL to make sure they don't miss your site.
Add your URL to Google
When Google finds your blog through an automatic crawl it follows links from other sites.
What can you do to make Google find your blog?
Get incoming links.
There are sites that the search engine spiders visit many times a day and getting links on sites that search engines visit regularly is one of the keys to getting indexed quickly.
It helps you climb in search engine results. Google, view links to your site as a vote. The more votes your site has the better. Search engines use the number of backlinks that a blog has as just one of the factors for determining your ranking.
Incoming links to your blog also means more visitors to your blog and I know from personal experience that high PageRank links definitely help to get the site indexed quickly.
Blog directories are a great way of getting backlinks.
We have compiled a list of the top ten blog directories sorted by page rank.
Once you are indexed, fresh content will keep the search engine robots returning to your site, so be sure to update regularly.
To see if you're already indexed by Google perform a Google search like this
site:bloggertalk.net
You also want to avoid the Google sandbox too.
Google Blog Search Offers Pinging to Get Your Blog Indexed.
You can manually ping your blog at http://blogsearch.google.com/ping or automatically ping it if you're using Wordpress by adding http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2 to your update services.
Having an RSS feed is necessary if you want your blog to be shown in Google's Blog search engine as Google's Blog Search indexes blogs by their site feeds.

You said you want to avoid the Google Sandbox. What exactly is the Google Sandbox? And more importantly, how do I stay out of it?

I find very great way to get a site indexed very quickly is add it to your signature link at the forums that you frequent.

Currently Google loves to kiss your website through Articles, Blogs and forums.. but checks the nofollow link before putting signature in the forum

This still confuses me. My blog was indexed some time ago. Several weeks. I have a ton of incoming links. So, how do I get a PR? When Google decides?
