I've tried Wordpress, and some of the others. i like Blogspot because the html layout is quite simple to use, and one can alternate between wyswig editing and actual html changes. Dropping widgets into the site is a breeze. I've used several without a hitch from widgetbox.com
I found wordpress to be limiting and cumbersome. But I suppose it's different for different people. As for me, I want simple, direct, trouble free, and as fast as possible. So far, Blogspot has provided me with all of that.
I'm not sure everyone is aware, but every article that is written and published, is automatically sent to the ping services as well.

What I think good about Blogger is that it has many pros that you've stated but I do notice that new posts are immediately pinged and there will be spiders crawling your site...
I think why most people chose Wordpress rather than Blogger is that the templates are more...well, nice and the spam control by Akismet is good also. Other than these, I think Blogger still has something to be proud of...

| Blogger is great for a free host. It's easy to use, has lots of features and you can edit the HTML of your template. I think that both Blogger and Wordpress.com have their pros and cons, but for people who want control over their blogs Blogger is the way to go. It gives you a lot more control than Wordpress.com does. |

Gigglesnort you mentioned some very good points about blogger/blogspot.
But I am sure you are aware that WordPress also offers this and much more flexibility then blogger by far...in my opinion but again I am a coder so customizing or adding features is a common task for me.
WordPress has the ability to add RPC pinging sites right inside the admin control panel, so you can ping all of them by adding them to the list very easily.
WordPress is also far more easier to skin then Blogger/Blogspot as the main template files are not HTML or XHMTL but in XML. not to mention the obvoise here but WordPress offers 1000's of themes/ wordpress templates where as blogger/blogspot only has 30+?
When we are talking Widgets, Blogger does have an easy to use import tool, where as WordPress you need to know how to install and upload the 1000's of Addons, Plugins or Modules ...
Many Marketers and SEO Professionals would argue that WordPress is far better then Blogger/Blogspot.
But in my opinion its personal preference, I just wanted to point out that WordPress offers the same features.
Both Blog platforms have their pros and cons, and users will find there are many good and negative points in both WordPress & Blogger/Blogspot!

I did like the themes better in Wordpress. But I discovered that I could use any image as my header for my blog, personlized, and not having to depend on Wordpress or Blogger to supply one for me. But like you said, It's a personal thing. I could just create a website and create all sorts of flash designs, but frankly, I didn't want to do that on a blog, as it's primary purpose is for me to share my thoughts, not necessarily create a dramatic visual presence.

Wordpress on my own domain has been great. I wouldn't advise it for someone who's just starting out, though.
I found Wordpress.com to be very limiting. It's okay if you don't want to customize the theme, but being able to customize the theme is important to me since I like my blog to be as accessible as possible. With Blogger I was able to edit the HTML of the blog and make it more accessible. Wordpress.com does give you stats, though.
I don't think that any one site is better than the other. They're both very different, and which one is best depends on the blogger's needs.

I've used both. Wordpress looks better, but Blogger can do more. I use wordpress.com for one of my sites, the "big" wordpress for the other, which is an entirely different beast. WP.com doesn't allow java, so you're kind of limited there: no polls, no blogrolling, etc., but from a design standpoint, I think the templates are more attractive.
I haven't used blogger in some time. Do they have a WYSIWYG editor now? If that's what you're looking for and don't mind paying a monthly fee, I'd go with Typepad, but WP.com allows for some customization, like headers or colors. You can edit the CSS, but you have to pay for that. |

I do love the Wordpress.com themes. They don't need any customization to look good and a lot of them let you change the header.
Blogger does have a WYSIWYG editor. It seems pretty decent, but I haven't used it much. I think you can blog by email and use HTML as well.

my only complaint about wordpress is the fact that they will not let you use javascript or implement ads on your blog ... of course, this is only with WordPress.com hosted blogs and not with self-hosted wordpress blogs  |

A lot of people don't like that. I think they're worried about security with the Javascript. They also use Adsense on the blogs, so that's probably why they won't allow ads. Personally I wouldn't put extra ads on my blog if there were already ads on it. It would be too much.

| Im new to blogging i have tried blogger. my only comlaint with it is that my blog doesn't appear the way I want it to appear. If I enter data in table form and publish it all the characters appear as one clump minus the spaces that I have entered. Turns out I have to add html codes which of course adds to the work and I hate that. I only wished that blogging there would be as easy as using a word processor with lots of cut and paste options and no problems in attaching margins. i still have to study wordpress though but I tried pasting a table and it worked. Who knows what else I would discover. |

The problem you always run into when trying to compare Blogger to WordPress is that WordPress is comprised of two (three?) very dissimilar platforms. Wordpress.com which can be compared with Blogger and Wordpress.org blogging platform softwares which can't be, unless you take the word "free" out of it. WordPress software may be free but "doing it yourself" is most definitely not free.
In that light I have to agree with the commenters that state that Wordpress.com is rather limited when compared with Blogger as far as user control is concerned and, of course, adding your own scripts and ads which Wordpress.com does not allow. But still, it all boils down to personal taste. I've been a "do it myself" WordPress blogger for so long now that I can't envision going back to a free hosted deal like Blogger or Wordpress.com. I can tell you this though. If you want complete control over your site, there's no comparison. A self hosted WordPress blog blows Blogger away.

Wordpress is my STRONG vote. I just love their style... BBPress is cool too.
