How to add a counter to your blog
There are a number of services that help you
track traffic to your blog. In this tutorial we are going to look at how to add a counter from sitemeter to your blog.
-Go to http://www.sitemeter.com/
-Click on sign up
-You will then be taken to a page that contains some information about Site Meter. Click on the 'Next' button.
-Read Site Meter Policies and click next
-Next you will be taken to a page where you fill out your blog's URL, the name of your blog, and a code name.
-"Your codename is what uniquely identifies your counter and you will use it to log in to your Site Meter account."
-Once you have everything filled out, click on next.
-On the next page, you will be asked for your Email Address, ZIP or postal code, the year of birth, title (EX: CEO, Marketing Manager, Other, etc.), country, gender, and your email preference (HTML or Text). Click on the 'Next' button when you have finished filling this out.
-The next page will ask you if you wish to subscribe to their newsletter. You can skip this page for now by clicking next.
-The next page asks you to confirm the info that you gave. If everything is correct click on next.
-Once you have confirmed everything is correct you can then add the sitemeter to your page by clicking on the Manager link at the top of the page.
-Here you can can get installation instructions, Customize your account, and select your meter style.
-Add the HTML code to your blog's template.
Depending on your blog host, if you are using Blogger you will want to go to layout, template page elements/ html javascript and add it there instead of in the footer of your template.
That is all there is to adding a free sitemeter counter to your blog.
Now you can start counting your blog traffic. _________________ Help Support Blogger Talk Blogging Community|

This is GREAT Rose.
Very detailed and clear! (important for those of us new to the blogging world)!
Would you say, once one has got the blog online, this would be the first step?

It's a neat site but I think the free version is weak in the referrals area.
I don't need to know IP's but some referral information, such as what search words were used to find one's site, is essential.
So the reality is if I really want useful stats I have to pay the 6.99 per month. That is not an outrageous price but it does add up, 84 bucks a year.
Any other sites to recommend? I'd consider paying three bucks a month and not looking back, but 7 bucks a month seems too much especially since I'm not really planning any revenue from the site.
it's almost like they could have an additional category, non revenue generating sites, 2.99 a month. _________________ http://www.alessandromachi.blogspot.com/ |
