Perhaps you missed it, but their appears to be a buzz in the blogosphere over the fight by some bloggers to form a labor union.

Do bloggers need a union of their own?

That was the question raised at the Yearly Kos conference at McCormick Place in Chicago.

In case you missed it, you can read the Washington post article at
Bloggers consider forming labor union

What are your thoughts?

In the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit that I am against unions for the most part. I think they were needed when they were first created, but now they are more of a drain on workers. Having said that...

I can't really think of any advantage to having a blogger union. Most unions require membership dues. How many amateur or professional bloggers are going to be willing to pay dues to a union?

I can see a need for a professional organization that could help set some standards, but I don't think a union is needed for that.

I agree, I am more for a blogger etiquette than I am for any sort of blogging union.

Would be hard to organize, plus there are so many bloggers and wannabe bloggers, that the unsuccessful would start blogging during strikes. Plus, the successful bloggers are making enough money that they wouldn't join a union, so it would be pointless. John Chow and Shoemoney and the like don't have much to complain about.
