Let's face it, we are all bouncers at times. We've all visited blogs that we immediately bounce right off of. In many cases there are obvious reasons for bouncing. Perhaps you don't speak the language and don't have the time or inclination to go through a translation process. Or perhaps it is obvious that the subject matter is not your cup of tea. And, of course, we all know there are a lot of crappy blogs.

Most of us have read tips for blogging with their "Do's and Don't's". I thought it might be interesting to find out from some of the forum members what type of factor will typically prompt them to leave a blog immediately other than the obvious ones such as language or subject matter.

For instance, I hate to 'work' to read a post where the text is hard to decipher because it is obscured by some graphic in the background or where is the color contrasts or fonts make reading an eye-straining chore. While the background or color/font choices may be impressive and eye-catching upon entering the blog, they can be a real hindrance in reading the posts at times. Result: I usually bounce to another blog.

I could go on with several other items, but I would rather hear of the reasons some of you have for being bouncers. What are some of the items that frequently bug you when you visit blogs and prompt you to leave? Perhaps we will see some of these problems in our own blogs and can tidy them up.

Good topic:

I find it annoying if the blog takes forever to load or has too much Flashy stuff on the blog.

For those of you who don't know: Bounce rate means people who visit only one page then "bounce" away from your blog.

Language... uninteresting topic... music that can't be turned off... a million gadgets that take forever to load... pop up adds that deposit trojans on my computer... all of that - but most especially the "business" bloggers have caused me to simply stop surfing blogs. Only when I know someone who has a blog will I look at it now.

font that can't be read, annoying music that can't be read, popups are just a few things that make me want to leave.

Also those blogs about business....just because I"m just not interested in the topic.

When texts are harder to read
When the site contains heavy images
When the site is not related to my searches .... icon_biggrin.gif

You know, my, I have occasionally looked at stats on my Site Meter which, in part, tell you how people found you. One of the ways is via Google search. Sometimes it's clear my blog fits their searches because it'll be on the first page or two of results, but some... I'll look 10 pages into the search results and sit scratching my head wondering how on earth they arrived at my site. Even if my blog fits their search terms!! Makes me wonder if Google doesn't scramble search results.

Great topic, I've been wondering why people bounce off my blog. I try to keep the first view of my blog clean looking and inviting. No annoying graphics that don't load or hard to read fonts etc. But I still get people that take one look at my blog and vamoose.

I have noticed that same thing about google searches on my sitemeter. I could see that maybe even if it did fit the search criteria, maybe it wasn't the information the reader was seeking. Sometimes I wonder how accurate Sitemeter is on tracking the length time someone spends on my blog.

I don't like boring looking blogs- that look like the blogger spent two seconds to set up. Even though I try not to judge a book by it's cover, I find myself hitting the back button as soon as I see a drab blog. Same goes for busy looking blogs.

BlueJeanFemme, what's your blog address? You should include that in your signature so people can check out your blog if they see your comments here BloggerTalk. I'd like to check out your blog...

Pretty much the subject matter thing...I'll stick around and search through 'busy', ads, whatever, for just a nugget even of a topic that catches my interest, or touches my heart, something worthwhile...

I encountered one blog that contains ads all over, overlapping the entire posts.

Yeah it's really bad when that happens, my. Of course I've seen it on normal websites that are supposed to be "professional" as well.

Most of the time i dont hang around if the topic just does not interest me although that said it is nice to see what other bloggers are up to even if you are not really interested in the content.
