Let me introduce myself before you decide on anything. (Warning - This is a heartbreaking story and anyone with a serious heart condition should not proceed) I started blogging very recently out of curiosity. Just to find out what it is like. But now I am an addict. Once I became an addict I wanted to change my blog from top to bottom and left to right. I started working like a fully charged battery. I was very happy with my new look and kept on blogging until I came to know my blog rank. What a shock? You should have seen my face (luckily no one was around to faint) After all the hard work you get to know something like this. Now, where did I go wrong? I went around like a mad cow in search of an answer. Couldn’t find any? When I was about to give up I saw a link to this forum. Wow, serenity at last. I would really appreciate if you can share some of your tips and suggestions. Any experienced bloggers willing to share expertise with a clumsy blogger? Any suggestion to improve in any way is highly appreciated. Now I can put up with the rank but I am more concerned about the quality. Should I give up blogging and take up farming?

Thanks

Hi GK. Welcome to the forum.

It's been my experience that once you let go of the idea that your blog has to be a certain way, things will be much better. Personal blogs should just be for you. If you happen to garner a few loyal readers somewhere along the way, great. If not, is it really any different than having one of those lock-and-key variety of diaries to tuck under your pillow at night? I have a few friends who read my blog. Most don't comment. I've tried no end of tactics to increase my readership and it might work for a little while but in the end I go back to having just a few people who read it. I'd say a good 90% of my posts have no comments. I don't know what more I can do to improve things other than make my blog about a specific topic other than me and my life and my thoughts on a whole range of topics.

I noticed on your intro on your blog you were going to do an advice orientated blog, but changed your mind at the recommendation of your family. Why not do that as a separate blog? If you find one going better than the other, ditch one. Or maintain two.

It seems lately that those who are just onto the blogging scene want to be popular right off the bat. It doesn't happen that way. Every blog that is popular took time getting that way. Just have a little faith in yourself and blog about what makes you happy. Fame will come... or it won't... but in the end you should be proud of what you do no matter what.

BJF, that was a great reply. You summed up some of my feelings exactly. And, many of my experiences are very similar. Sometimes we get caught up in the 'technical tips' side and forget to sit back and look at why we are blogging and what we should realistically expect from our blog.

GK_16, blog about what makes you feel good.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Guess I can postpone the idea of farming. When experts say hi we should never say bye. smart.gif By the way if you find my silly jokes irritating please let me know. I do agree with you. We should enjoy our work without running after fame, especially if we are doing something useful. I really did enjoy blogging till I came to know my rank. I started having doubts about the usefulness of my blog. After that I came to know that the rank has something to do with the links exchanged. It has nothing to do with the usefulness or the quality. So I am not that concerned about the rank.

By the way I came to know that Blue is searching for photos from one of your blogs. Is there a specific size or a type for the images? Never thought I will come across a book addict in the web. I have been a book addict for sometime. Now of course I simply don’t have time to read. When I sit in front of the computer I forget everything else. I really should do something about this.

Nice photos Baker. I am beginning to like photography thanks to my blog. I want to make it attractive with photos.

Thanks again for the support

YW, BJF.

And congrats on that Member of the Month tag.

And GK_16, if you are interested in perhaps starting another blog on the advice issue as BJF suggested I have a couple of ideas on how you might could approach it. Let me know.

Hi Baker, I really do appreciate BJF’s suggestion regarding advising. In fact I have been thinking about the same for sometime. This is something I really enjoy. I would really appreciate your tips, ideas and suggestions regarding that.

Hi GK. Welcome to Blogger Talk Blogger Forum. I'm glad that you joined us.
wavey.gif eusa_clap.gif

Success does not happen over night. Blogging takes time, effort and patience. I would certainly not toss in the towel just yet. You only have 7 posts on your blog. You just started blogging in May and did not update until June. Tisk Tisk icon_smile.gif

Visit other blogs and comment on those blogs. Even if you become a regular commenter at five blogs it could be beneficial to your blog.

(You can start at my blog. lol)

I know from personal experience that gaining readers and return visitors takes time and will not happen overnight.

Please hang in there. I read on your blog you were a teacher. Would you tell a student to just give up?

I already visited your blog & left you a few comments.

GK

I'll try to send you the suggestions later today or tomorrow by PM here at this forum. It will take a bit of time to write them up.

And take Rose's advice. Search out some blogs that are perhaps about something you care about. If you are favorably impressed by a post or the blog in general make sure you leave a comment. You will almost always get a response on smaller blogs and often you will get a return visit and perhaps a comment on yours. And don't just comment once and let it go. If you really like their blog then comment often. It lets them know you like it enough to take your time to visit often.

Hi Rose,

Thanks for the comments. Don't worry, I will not harm my little friend. Anyway he is going all over the place now. Something has happened. Regarding Mylot I do agree with you. I feel sorry for some of my friends who are going around posting in a frantic hurry. I really can’t manage more than five posts a day. Regarding parenting you really sound like an intelligent mother. I agree with what you say. But most teachers do not have enough time to talk with their students. Even if they do it is really difficult to guide the child in every stage like a parent because very rarely we get to stay with one child for more than one year.

Thanks for the advice on commenting. I will definitely start from your blog.
