| Is it possible to edit reader comments? All of my blogs are "family friendly" and "G-rated." Sometimes comments are good but a word or phrase may need to be excised. |

| You can't edit comments if you use Blogger's commenting tool, but getting an account with Haloscan and using it for your comments allows you complete control. |

Is it ethical to edit someone else's comments?
I mean even its offensive or what, still their opinion counts. Right?
I think you can control it using haloscan wherein you can 'set' words that you think sounds offensive and should not be posted on your comment page then haloscan will filter those words you suggested. |

Rose I've given up on that. I've wanted the password protected posts for ages on Blogger and have yet to see it happen.
Misyel, you do have a point with the ethical nature of editing someone else's words. I think it'd probably be a better choice not to allow them to appear rather than change someone's words. |

| I've edited someone's words to remove a statement that may be consider libel or I have edited to remove a link. Is that still considered unethical? After all, I am the publisher? |

Hi Rose
Of course, it's not. You are protecting your blog/site that's why you have the right to edit that may harm your reputation as a publisher.
You have the option of (a) deleting it (b)maintain it (c)rephrase it
In my case, I just hit the delete button to avoid confusion between me, the readers and the person who wrote the message.

| I do not think it is appropriate to change the way people say things. I do have a statement on at least one of my blogs that it is a "family-friendly blog" and using foul or profane language is not acceptable. The editing I would do is to remove the offensive word or phrase and substitute "[expletive deleted]." |

| I think that as long as you have a disclaimer stating that then you should be fine. |
