I am just learning about Google page rank. Today I read about link churning which is suspected by search engines when links on blogs or websites appear, disappear and reappear frequently. I recently installed a cool widget on my blog that displays the URLs of the last 5 or 6 sites that have linked to me. (It's customizable to where I can delete a link with inappropriate content.) I thought it was a neat way to give them some linky love in return, as I only include links on my blogroll that are creative writing related.
This widget updates itself. Can someone knowledgable in page rank fatal flaws tell me if it could flag my blog as a link churner? Needless to say, I'd remove it. But I'd like to keep it on if it's not a risk. _________________ You Might Like What I Hear!

Hi Eavesdropwriter,
I've just read your message about link churning. I was totally blinded by the science. I'm an absolute beginner at all this, having been on Blogger for just about a week or so. Every day brings about a million new jargon words and phrases, it's fascinating.
Just want to say I love your idea of overheard conversations, it's very original. It's funny, lighthearted, but I can see how it can also have an angle that is serious, even spiritual.
You may be thinking of working up a book from it? If so I think you will sell many copies. I'll take one!
Kind regards

Hello Ess47, I'm in the same boat as you as far as learning terminology and blogging processes. And yes, it is fascinating! As for your question about a book, I am working on an ebook of my own endings to the conversations. Thanks for the encouragement!
About this link churning business, I wonder if 5 or 6 updating links is a big deal. I'm thinking not. Hopefully someone who knows can educate both of us! _________________ You Might Like What I Hear!

Oh now I think the mist is starting to clear regarding this link churning business. You mean you can find out exactly who has visited, not just their continent or city?
On the subject of creative writing ... believe it or not, I started to blog so I could get experience at that, but up to now, whenever I start to write something, it comes out as an article or an essay. Hence the name, Ess47. And I hope that my essays are of some help to people. I have readers in 70 countries, is that good or not?
However I would dearly love to write creatively, you know, story writing. My difficulty at present is characterization. There's no shortage of plots or anything like that.
Any tips from an established, talented writer such as yourself would be most welcome.

Link churning is not a term I'm familiar with, so I did a little research and found that it is "randomly changing link positions or link text" (as defined by Directtraffic.org) and I do not see how what your widget does could be called link churning. All your widget does is list others who have linked to you and if you don't like their content, you have the option to remove them from the list.
