Most of you are probably aware that the Recording Industry is going to be charging Internet Radio stations almost four times the amount in royalty fees to play music of the web this year.
While I agree that artists need to be paid for their work, etc., it also must be remembered that certain musicians, groups, etc. would never be known were their material not being played. Without a contract, record label, etc. these artists just disappear into the cracks.
I'd like some opinions on the issue from bloggertalk members. |

GAAAHHHH . This is just another reason why the RIAA won worst company in America for 2007.
I listen to pandora pretty much all the time when I'm at my computer! What's the point of going after internet radio as well?
Oh and the topic title is misspelled RIIA by the way _________________ NZ Protagonist - My screenwriting blog.

Yes. Can't change that once it's done. I listen to Soma Fm all the time. And were it not for them, I wouldn't kniow .10 of the artists out there that they play. That's my whole point. and soon, iPod is entering into its deal with several record labels to remove the copy restrictions on downloaded songs. The RIAA is already on the move to stop that. Too bad for the up and coming musicians with no way for mass distribution of their work. Lame. |

The RIAA has completely shoot itself in the foot the way they're handling the whole digital culture. Suing random people and denying fans is just moronic like they want to commit suicide.
Unfortunately it's looking like no one can do anything substantial to stop the RIAA from killing internet radio as well
Edit:
Wait if the RIAA is raising prices, then that won't affect independent artists right? So can't things like pandora and last.fm etc that recommend music just play way more from the independent artists than they currently are to make up for the price increase? A lot of people will still stop listening though.
The net radio stations that're like traditional ones which play popular music will be killed.
I think I don't think I understand enough about what's going on... I should probably read more on this. _________________ NZ Protagonist - My screenwriting blog.

Actually, there's been a brilliant article on this written at blocsonic.com http://blocsonic.com/blog/does_internet_radio_need_saving
Worth a read for sure. |
