You know what? I have been thinking for a while about the introduce yourself topic here in the forums, and I have decided that I don't really like it. Ok before you get all mad at me let me explain what I mean. It's not that I don't like the idea of introducing yourself, it's more of how generic it has become. Don't get me wrong sometimes it's a lot of fun but the responses are getting redundant. Every time it's, "welcome to blogger talk, have fun". I fall victim to this as well, so I'm not pointing fingers, I just want to see sincerity here. Am I the only one who feels this way? Oh and while I am on the topic, I want to hear from you guys, why do you think there are so few people returning here? Is there something we all could do to make it more exciting or whatever? _________________ BANNED |

I don't know if we should remove it all together though, is there some way we could make it more personal? _________________ BANNED |

Hi Shadeofgray. Welcome to the site.... Oh... wait.... wrong thread :p
Yep, I'm guilty of falling to the same reply all the time.
Maybe we could encourage people posting there to tell us a little bit more about why they got into blogging, what they are hoping to get out of it, etc. Just something a bit more the, "Hello, I'm new." _________________

| I have to confess that I don't open the introduce yourself folder. I feel like every thread is the same. |

It's true, and it happens on any forum. There are plenty of forums with "introduce yourself" sections where people will simply post "hi, im new" and have it followed by 6 or 7 "welcome, have fun!" replies.
I think there are many ways around it, to make it more personal and spice things up a bit. Encouraging people to talk about where they're from is always a good start. Simply being from the same country can establish an automatic sort of connection with someone (especially on the internet).
Perhaps if users introducing themselves posted some basic info along with that, gender, age, etc (although some people prefer to not disclose these sorts of things) there would be more to reply to and get personal with : P
just my 2 cents : )
btw, I'm from Australia, I'm a 20 year old guy and i study Design! _________________ 2 Students. 5 Years. 1 Million Dollars.

I agree that it's not just this forum that's like that. 'Any' forum with an Introduce Yourself board often falls victim to get the same sort of replies. Honestly, it's usually up to the new person to bring life to it.....if they actually give more info about themselves and leave something worth noticing or remembering, it's much easier to give something more than a generic reply.
Like instead of saying "hi, I'm new here, this is my blog"....something like the last post is more likely to get a "oh, I study design, too!" or "what kind of design?", etc.
As for not returning, lots of people just stop by to leave a link....or they stop by with a specific question and after the question is asked, they feel no other reason to return. Again, that's not unique to this forum and it really just takes time and exposure. Creating new threads and incentives to post sometimes helps, too....like some forums give points for posting, and those points eventually add up to earn something (on some it's as simple as earning a name change or buying a 'pet rock'....on others, it's more like offering chances to enter a contest for a prize of some sort). Who knows what will work for this place, but just keep at it and it'll get to where you want it. |

Why dont you just ban the words "Hello" and "all" and put a word limit of more than 10-20 words. Surely if people can write a blog they can think of something more than "Hi all". Make it more like a game, you know have a little award or something like "best newbie greeting" gets 20 posts added to his account or something.
Work with me people, work with me...lol.
I am just making this up as I go,lol.
