Do you participate in social networking sites? Are social networking sites a waste of time? I’m trying to figure out the benefits of the social networks sites. I’m actually finding that social networking sites don’t work very well. While social networking sites might bring some traffic, traffic alone isn't enough. I participate in Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Bumpzee, Mybloglog and a few others. I get a good amount of visits from Stumbleupon, but those are just one-time visitors. So what do you think of social networking sites? Have you noticed a good increase in traffic after you joined and started participated in them? How many of those that befriended you or you befriended actually visited your blog? How many have started participating in the discussions on your blog?

The two social networking sites in which I participate most, Library Thing and Last FM, aren't really social networking sites, per se, but music and books are two things I'm really passionate about, so I seek out those kinds of places. LT has become more a "social network" in the past few months.
Like anything else online, I notice an increase in traffic only if I'm actively participating. If I go a few days without logging in, it's as if I don't exist. Social networking sites work, but you have to put a lot of effort into them, hence the "networking" aspect. (The two I mentioned are more for fun than networking. Any traffic spike is an added bonus.)
I like MyBlogLog a lot. At first, those sites with a "recent visitors" widget turned me off. No more anonymous lurking. But it's a good way to say, "Hey, I'm here. I read your site," without leaving a comment. I'm a big fan of commenting, but sometimes there is nothing really I can say or contribute. _________________ done but with errors |

I don't use social networking sites because I don't have time. Library Thing sounds interesting, though. _________________ http://lifewithaguidedog.info |

| In my opinion, Stumbleupon is a pretty good way of connecting with other bloggers who share your likes, although you are right about them being one time visitors only |

I belong to Eons.com it's for an older group of people They seem more responsible in answering topics and generally it is a pretty nice group of people to interact with. It's done through Forum posting as is done here. I find it useful. Have made some friends who share common interests. _________________ Visit http://georgejazz.blogspot.com

| I'm a member of a few social networking sites, but only a couple places are for the benefit of my site. For the most part, I think the most beneficial thing about them is that 'I' can choose to go see other places then by blog hopping/commenting, I find new visitors. |
