Some bloggers like Rob of
Bloggeries argue that copying another website or blogger’s list of links and then reproducing parts of it or the entire thing on their blog falls under fair use.
I have never copied a link list. I have used pieces of other blog articles from time to time. However, I have always noted where I got the information, and provided a direct link back to the article I was using. I have always assumed that would protect me from being accused of stealing a blog. I am not terribly worried about copyright infringement because I am pretty careful about that. I am more worried a reader might see my blog and think I stole information. That is why I usually provide links to the blogs I use stuff from.
Any thoughts on the proper etiquette of using material from someone else's blog?
That would depend. What you're describing sounds like it would fall under fair use, provided you are only quoting a paragraph and linking to the rest of the post and you are not quoting the heart of the article. Please see the following articles.
