When you go to his website to download the ‘buy me a beer WordPress plugin’ you get the derided warning attack page, which informs you the site has been blocked due to security reasons. (more…)

Bloggers need Empathy

You’ve probably heard the saying “Don’t judge someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”

When engaging with people online there is bound to be conflict. Blogging conflict often happens in posts and comments between bloggers.

An important part of avoiding conflict and conflict resolution is being able to show empathy. Empathy isn’t about just putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, it is about seeing that position from someone else’s perspective. (more…)

There are many sites out there dedicated to providing guest bloggers with a platform from which to express themselves to a wider audience. A lot of powerful blogs regularly employ guest bloggers to ensure they provide a varied opinion to their readership.

Guest blogging is not only a great way to get a fresh perspective on an established blog (whilst the usual author takes a well deserved rest), but it also allows for otherwise unknown talent to find a voice with which to start building up their own readership. As such guest blogging can prove to be very worthwhile for everyone involved, with multiple benefits arising from the practice for both authors and blog owners.

How to set up comment reply notifications

If you are a regular reader of my blog you know I offer you the ability to subscribe to comments. I’m using the ” Subscribe to comments’ plugin, which sends you a notification email every-time a new comment is posted to a blog post.

All that email can be annoying.

On my post ‘reply to blog commentsSteve Youngs commented that he would love to know when someone replied directly to him on a comment apposed to receiving a notification email every-time a new comment is posted to a blog post.

I was unaware that I already had the plugin- Wp-threaded comments installed that sends a notification email only if a reply is posted directly to the commentator. (more…)

Today I want to touch on the subject of blogging etiquette.

Recently a blogger commented on one my posts and got no response from me. This led him to feel that he was being ignored, which was not what I was doing. I did read his comment and meant to get back to him, but it slipped my mind. It wasn’t done intentionally.

Where I stand on comments:

I appreciate those who take the time to comment on my blog and I’m normally pretty good at replying to comments. I try to do my best to keep up with any com­ment I get on my posts.

After all to gain a readership, you want to build a community around your blog. You do this be engaging with your readership. (more…)

You can add blogquote to your blog by clicking on the ” quotation marks in your post editor.

Alternatively, you can choose to wrap your quotations in blockquote tags, using the BlockQuote html element. (more…)

Sunday night I was chatting about managing your blog’s sidebar on Mack Collier’s popular Tweet Chat #blogchat. Blogchat is a weekly conversation that takes place every Sunday night starting at 8pm Central, on Twitter.


What should I put in my blog’s sidebar?

We were discussing what content to include in our sidebars, and I mentioned that one should include top commenters, recent posts and most commented on posts.

Some #blogchat participants were curious how you could do this using Blogger.
